Reverse: Artemis standing in biga drawn by galloping stags, right, holding bow in left hand, drawing arrow with right hand from quiver at shoulder. Legend: ΑΒΥΔΗΝΩΝ. Historical context

Caracalla, born Lucius Septimius Bassianus and later styled Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, was Roman emperor from 198 to 217 AD. He initially ruled as co-emperor alongside his father Septimius Severus before ruling alone following Severus's death in 211 AD. This civic bronze issue was struck under Caracalla at Abydos, an ancient crossing point on the Asian coast of the Hellespont within the historical region of Troas.
