Kallatis was a city located in Moesia Inferior, a Roman province established south of the Danube River in the Haemus Peninsula. The coinage was issued under Commodus, who governed the Roman Empire from 177 to 192, initially alongside his father Marcus Aurelius and subsequently as sole ruler from 180 until his assassination in 192. His administration was noted for internal intrigues and reliance on palace officials, while provincial cities honoured the imperial ruler.
