Coin in bronze struck at Dardanos in Troas under Commodus, dated c. AD 178. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 4008 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate bust of Commodus, right, wearing cuirass and paludamentum. Legend: Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟϹ ΚΟΜΟΔΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ. Reverse: Bust of the beardless Commodus facing right with laurel wreath, armor and paludamentum and opposite him draped bust of Crispina, facing left. Legend: ΔΑΡΔΑΝΙWΝ. Measured specimens give a diameter of 31.5–33 mm (from 1 recorded specimen). Historical context

Dardanos, also known as Dardanus, was an ancient Greek polis in the Troad that issued coinage dating back to the classical era. This bronze piece was struck by the city during the Roman Imperial Period, dated to circa AD 178. It was issued under Commodus, who served as Roman emperor from 177 to 192, and features Bruttia Crispina, who became Roman empress as his consort in 178 until 191.
