Period

1766

The Bristol Theatre Royal (now known as Bristol Old Vic) opened on 30 May 1766. Fifty silver tokens were issued to shareholders who had each raised £50 to fund the building of the theatre. The tokens granted their holders free access to 'Every Performance to be Exhibited in this House'. This token has not been engraved with a number, so may not have been issued to a shareholder.
