Period

Circa AD 10-41

This ancient silver unit is a numismatic artifact from the Catuvellauni and Trinovantes tribes of Celtic Britannia, attributed to the ruler Cunobelinus. Struck circa AD 10-41, the coin displays a complex iconography typical of the period.

The obverse features a two-leaf motif with crescents back-to-back, accompanied by the letters CV to the left and N to the right. The reverse depicts a warrior on a rearing horse, positioned towards the right and brandishing a sword in his right hand, with the inscription CAM visible below. The coin measures 13mm in diameter and has a weight of 1.31 grams. Its design reflects significant Celtic artistic sensibilities, with the vegetal motif and warrior imagery serving as distinct markers of the Cunobelin era.

The coin has been documented under several references including ABC 2888, VA 2047, and BMC 1866-67, and it is classified by researchers as the Two Leaves type. The intricate symbolism and physical composition highlight the technological and cultural sophistication of the ancient British tribes during this timeframe.
