Individual type · partial

Period

1759

The coin is minted in the Mughal style, featuring the name of the Mughal Emperor 'Alamgir II. The obverse bears the inscription "sikka mubarak badshah ghazi aziz-al-din muhammad alamgir," which translates to "The auspicious coin of the victorious Emperor ‘Alamgir, chosen of the faith of Muhammad."

The reverse displays the inscription "zarb arkat sanat 6 julus maimanat manus," meaning "Struck at Arkat in the 6th year of tranquil prosperity," indicating the year 6 of his reign, corresponding to 1759. Weighing 10.78 grams, the coin exhibits several test marks on its edge, common for currency of the period. This specific issue is noted for its extreme scarcity, with historical accounts speculating it may have been struck from private bullion rather than intended for wide public circulation, given the timing of the emperor's assassination in November 1759.
