Historical context

Decimus Clodius Albinus was proclaimed emperor by legions in Britain and Hispania in 193. Although he initially cooperated with Septimius Severus, a civil war broke out between them in 196 before Albinus died in battle in 197. This silver issue was produced at Lugdunum, an important Roman city in Gaul and capital of Gallia Lugdunensis.
