Stater in gold struck at Chersonesos Taurike under Tiberius, dated AD 28. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 21901 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Historical context

Chersonesus was an ancient Greek colony founded in the 6th century BC by settlers from Heraclea Pontica, situated on the southwestern coast of the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea. Tiberius, the second Roman emperor and stepson of Augustus, ruled the Roman Empire from AD 14 until his death in AD 37. This gold stater was minted by the city of Chersonesos Taurike in AD 28 during Tiberius's imperial reign.
