Denarius in silver struck at Lugdunum under Clodius Albinus, AD 195–AD 197, catalogued as RIC IV Clodius Albinus 15. Obverse: Head of Clodius Albinus, laureate, right.

Reverse: Felicitas, draped, standing left, holding caduceus in right hand and sceptre in left hand. Obverse legend: IMP CAES D CLO ALBIN AVG. Reverse legend: FEL AVG COS II.

Historical context

This silver denarius was struck between AD 195 and AD 197 at Lugdunum, the capital of Gallia Lugdunensis located at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône. It was issued under Clodius Albinus, who had been proclaimed emperor in 193 following the murder of Pertinax. Although Albinus initially cooperated with Septimius Severus, their alliance collapsed into civil war in 196, culminating in Albinus's death in battle the following year.
