Historical context

Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 until his death in 211, taking power after the death of Pertinax during the Year of the Five Emperors. Following civil conflicts against rivals Didius Julianus, Pescennius Niger, and Clodius Albinus, he consolidated his authority across the empire. Together with his wife Julia Domna, Severus established the Severan dynasty, raising his elder son Caracalla to co-emperor in 198 and his younger son Geta to Augustus in 209.

Struck at Rome, this silver coin belongs to the standard denomination introduced around 211 BC and produced into the third century. The obverse bears the emperor's portrait and title "SEVERVS PIVS AVG". The reverse combines the facing portraits of his two sons, Caracalla and Geta, alongside the legend "AETERNIT IMPERI", presenting the dynastic succession and the continuity of the imperial family.
