Historical context
This antoninianus was produced in AD 276 at Lugdunum, a major Roman city in Gaul located at modern Lyon. It was struck under Marcus Annius Florianus, also known as Florian, who assumed the throne following the death of his half-brother Tacitus. Florian ruled for only 88 days in 276 before being killed by his own soldiers during a confrontation with the rival emperor Probus.
