Historical context

This silver antoninianus was produced at the Gallic provincial capital of Lugdunum in AD 276 during the fleeting reign of Marcus Annius Florianus, also known as Florian. Having taken the imperial throne following the death of his half-brother Tacitus, Florian governed for only 88 days. His brief rule ended in 276 when he was killed by his own soldiers amid a confrontation with the rival emperor Probus.
