Historical context

Marcus Annius Florianus, also known as Florian, briefly served as Roman emperor in AD 276. He acceded to the throne following the death of his half-brother Tacitus, but was killed by his own soldiers after just 88 days during a confrontation with the rival emperor Probus. This antoninianus, a denomination originally introduced by Caracalla in 215 AD, was produced at the Gallic city of Lugdunum during Florianus's brief reign.
