Historical context

Florianus, also known as Florian, ruled briefly as Roman emperor in 276 after the demise of his half-brother Tacitus. His reign lasted only 88 days before he was killed by his own troops during a confrontation with the rival emperor Probus. This antoninianus was struck at Ticinum, where the imperial mint had been relocated from Mediolanum by Aurelian in 275. Originally introduced under Caracalla in 215 AD, the antoninianus was distinguished by the radiate crown.
