Historical context
Struck at Lugdunum, this bronze sestertius carries the obverse inscription "IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS P F AVG". The denomination was an established Roman coin that had functioned in commerce as the value of two and a half asses or one quarter of a denarius. On the reverse, the legend reads either "RESTITVTOR GALLIAR" or "RESTITVTOR GALLIAR SC", accompanying a scene depicting Postumus standing in military attire with a spear, raising a kneeling woman who holds a branch.
