Historical context
Constantius Chlorus served as caesar from 293 to 305 within the Tetrarchy founded by Diocletian, before reigning as augustus from 305 until his death in July 306. Following the abdication of Diocletian in 305, Galerius was likewise promoted to augustus. This coin was struck between AD 305 and AD 306 under Galerius at Serdica, an ancient Roman city situated at the site of present-day Sofia, Bulgaria.
