Historical context

Flavius Julius Crispus was the eldest son of Constantine I and was appointed junior colleague with the rank of caesar in March 317, receiving the title princeps iuventutis. Under the authority of Constantine I, this coin honours Crispus before his execution at Pola in 326. It was produced at the mint of Ticinum, which had operated since its transfer from Mediolanum in 275 and remained active until closed by Constantine the Great in 326.
