Historical context

Constans, the youngest son of Constantine the Great, was Roman emperor from 337 until his death in 350. Appointed caesar in 333, he was made augustus alongside his brothers in September 337, initially administering Italy, Illyricum, and Africa. After defeating his eldest brother Constantine II in 340, Constans took over the administration of Gaul. Despite underlying tensions between the co-emperors, he ruled alongside his surviving brother, Constantius II.

This AE3 bronze coinage was produced at the mint of Arelate under the imperial authority of Constans.
