Historical context

Elevated to Caesar in 324 and Augustus in 337 alongside his brothers, he initially governed the eastern regions, including Greece, Thrace, Egypt, and the Asian provinces. His reign involved sustained conflict against the Sasanian Empire alongside civil warfare against usurpers such as Magnentius, whom he defeated to become sole ruler in 353.

This bronze and billon large AE2 piece was struck at the mint of Cyzicus in the Asian territory ruled by Constantius II. The obverse presents the emperor with the imperial inscription "D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG". The reverse depicts a helmeted Roman soldier spearing a fallen horseman who wears a pointed cap and raises his arm, accompanied by the legend "FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO".
