Light miliarensis in silver struck at Sirmium under Julian the Apostate, AD 361–AD 363, catalogued as RIC VIII Sirmium 104. Obverse: Bust of Julian, pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed, right.

Reverse: Julian, diademed, draped, cuirassed, standing front, head right, holding sceptre in right hand and globe in left hand; to right, Victory crowning him with wreath and holding palm; both figures standing under and arch supported by two spiral columns. Obverse legend: FL CL IVLIA-NVS P F AVG. Reverse legend: VICTORIA ROMANORVM.

Historical context

Flavius Claudius Julianus, remembered in Christian tradition as Julian the Apostate, ruled as Roman emperor from 361 to 363 after serving as Caesar of Western Rome from 355 to 360. This light miliarensis was minted during his imperial reign at Sirmium, a major city in the Roman province of Pannonia that had been proclaimed one of the four capitals of the Roman Empire in 293 AD.
