Historical context

Jovian served as Roman emperor from June 363 until February 364. Following the death of Julian during the Persian expedition, the exhausted Roman forces proclaimed Jovian as his successor. Unable to cross the Tigris, he concluded peace with the Sasanian Empire on humiliating terms and spent his seven-month reign travelling towards Constantinople before dying at Dadastana. This coin was struck for the Christian emperor at the mint of Siscia between AD 363 and AD 364.
