Historical context

Valentinian II was elevated to the imperial office in 375 at the age of four, serving alongside his half-brother Gratian in the Western Roman Empire. During this time, the eastern provinces were governed by Valens until 378 and subsequently by Theodosius I, who reigned from 379 to 395. This bronze coin was struck between AD 378 and AD 383 under Theodosius I at the mint of Heraclea, also known as Perinthus, a prominent city of ancient Thrace situated on the Propontis.
