Period

AD 630-631

This Sasanian silver drachm was minted during the short reign of Queen Azarmidokht, daughter of Khusru II, who ruled between AD 630 and 631. The coin, weighing 4.15 grams, is struck in silver and follows the traditional Sasanian numismatic style.

The obverse displays a portrait bust of the queen facing right, crowned with a mural crown featuring a frontal crescent, two wings, and a star set on a crescent; ribbons are depicted on her left shoulder, with a crescent and ribbon on her right. Additional stars flank the crown, and the margin is decorated with star-in-crescent symbols. The reverse features a classic Sasanian fire altar design, flanked by two attendants, with a star and crescent placed beside the flames.

The margin of the reverse also repeats the star-in-crescent motif.
