Historical context

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus ruled as Roman emperor from 161 to 180, initially acceding alongside his adoptive brother Lucius Aurelius Verus. A member of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty and the last of the Five Good Emperors, Marcus Aurelius faced substantial military conflicts during his reign, including the Parthian War and the Marcomannic Wars. This municipal bronze issue was struck between AD 164 and 169 at Miletoupolis in the region of Mysia.
