Historical context
Marcus Antonius Gordianus, known as Gordian III, was Roman emperor from AD 238 to 244, becoming emperor at the age of 13. Germe, also known as Germa, was a town in ancient Mysia situated between the rivers Macestus and Rhyndacus, near modern Karaçam in Savaştepe, Asiatic Turkey. During the Roman Imperial Period, the civic mint at Germe struck bronze coinage under Gordian III's imperial authority between AD 238 and 244.
