Historical context

Hadrianoi, also known as Hadriani ad Olympum, was founded by the Roman emperor Hadrian on a spur of Mount Olympus near the Rhyndacus river. Lucius Septimius Severus served as Roman emperor from 193 to 211 after seizing power during the Year of the Five Emperors and eliminating rival claimants across the empire. This civic bronze coin was struck at Hadrianoi during his imperial reign.
