Coin in bronze struck at Pitane in Mysia, dated c. AD 98–117. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 11775 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Head of Zeus Ammon, right. Legend: ΠΙΤΑΝΕΩΝ. Reverse: Nude Zeus standing facing, head left, holding patera in outstretched right hand and sceptre in left hand. Legend: ΕΠΙ ΜΕΛΕΑΓΡΟΥ. Historical context

This bronze coin was issued by the civic authorities of Pitane during the Roman Imperial Period, dating to c. AD 98–117. Pitane was an ancient Greek settlement in Asia Minor, situated near modern Çandarlı in Turkey on the bay of Elaea near the mouth of the river Evenus. It was one of eleven ancient Aeolian settlements and possessed two harbours that afforded it considerable commercial advantages.
