Coin in bronze struck at Pitane in Mysia, dated c. AD 152–176. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 11876 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Head of (youthful) Dionysus, right, wearing ivy wreath. Legend: ΠΙΤΑΝΑΙΩΝ. Reverse: Tyche standing, left, holding rudder and cornucopia. Legend: ΕΠΙ ΝΙΚΗΦΟΡΟΥ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 3.59 g (mean of 2 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 16.9–17.6 mm (from 2 recorded specimens). Historical context

Pitane was an ancient Greek town in the Aeolis region of Asia Minor, situated near the mouth of the river Evenus on the bay of Elaea. As one of eleven ancient Aeolian settlements, it enjoyed commercial advantages through its two harbours. The town suffered severely from an earthquake during the reign of Titus and is later recorded by Hierocles. This bronze issue belongs to the Roman Imperial period, struck by the civic authority of Pitane between c. AD 152 and 176.
