Coin in bronze struck at Pitane in Mysia under Elagabal, dated c. AD 220–222. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 11895 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Veiled and diademed bust of Aquilia Severa, right. Legend: ΙΟΥ ΑΚΥΙΛΙΑ ϹΕΒΗΡΑΝ. Reverse: Tyche standing facing, head left, wearing kalathos, holding rudder in right hand and cornucopia in left arm. Legend: ΠΙΤΑΝΑΙΩΝ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 8.48 g (from 1 recorded specimen) and a diameter of 25 mm (from 1 recorded specimen). Historical context

This bronze coin was issued by the city of Pitane in Mysia, an ancient Greek town in Asia Minor situated on the bay of Elaea near the mouth of the river Evenus. It was struck around AD 220–222 during the reign of Roman emperor Elagabalus (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus), who ruled from 218 to 222. Elagabalus, from the Severan dynasty, was raised to the Principate at 14 years of age following an army revolt against Macrinus.
