Historical context

Issued during the Roman Imperial Period between c. AD 147 and 161, this bronze coin was struck at Poimanenon in Mysia, a fortified Greek town situated south of Cyzicus and southwest of Lake Aphnitis. The town belonged to the territory of Cyzicus and held a celebrated temple of Asclepius. The coin depicts Faustina the Younger (c. 130–175/176 AD), the youngest child of emperor Antoninus Pius and empress Faustina the Elder, who later served as Roman empress from 161 until her death as the wife of Marcus Aurelius.
