Coin in bronze struck at Poimanenon in Mysia under Trajan, dated AD 98–117. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 12810 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate head of Trajan, right. Legend: ΑΥΤΟΚΡΑΤΟΡΙ ΚΑΙΣΑΡΙ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟ. Reverse: Female goddess seated l., holding patera in outstreched r. hand, l. resting on sceptre. Legend: ΕΠΙ ΕΓΔΙΚΟΥ ΦΡΟΝΤΩΝΟΣ ΠΟΙΜΑ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 5.02 g (mean of 3 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 19–20.2 mm (from 2 recorded specimens). Historical context

Poemanenum, or Poimanenon, was an ancient Greek town in Mysia located south of Cyzicus and southwest of Lake Aphnitis, situated near modern Alexa in Asiatic Turkey. Trajan, born Marcus Ulpius Traianus, reigned as Roman emperor from 98 to 117 and was acclaimed as optimus princeps during a notable era of military expansion for the Roman Empire. During his reign, Poimanenon exercised civic authority in Mysia to strike local bronze coinage.
