Historical context

This coin was issued by the city of Poimanenon in Mysia, a region located in the northwest of ancient Asia Minor along the south coast of the Sea of Marmara. It was struck during the Roman Imperial Period under Julia Domna, who served as Roman empress from 193 to 211 as the wife of Emperor Septimius Severus. The first empress of the Severan dynasty, she was renowned for her philosophical, social, and political influence.
