Historical context

Annia Galeria Faustina the Younger was the youngest child of Emperor Antoninus Pius and Empress Faustina the Elder. She served as Roman empress from 161 until her death in 175 or 176 as the wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. This civic bronze issue was struck under Faustina II at Poimanenon in Mysia, a region located in northwestern ancient Asia Minor along the southern coast of the Sea of Marmara.
