Coin in bronze struck at Poimanenon in Mysia under Trajan, dated AD 98–117. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 12816 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate head of Trajan, right. Legend: ΑΥΤΟΚΡΑΤΟΡΙ ΚΑΙΣΑΡ ΣΕΒΑϹΤΩ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΩ. Reverse: Asclepius standing facing, head left, holding serpent-staff in right hand. Legend: ΕΠΙ ΕΓΔ[ΙΚΟΥ Φ]ΡΟΝΤΩΝΟΣ ΠΟΙΜΑ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 10.41 g (mean of 2 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 27.4–28.9 mm (from 2 recorded specimens). Historical context

Poimanenon, also known as Poemanenum, was a fortified Greek town of ancient Mysia situated south of Cyzicus and southwest of Lake Aphnitis, which was celebrated for its temple of Asclepius. During the Roman Imperial Period, the city issued civic coinage under Trajan, who reigned as Roman emperor from AD 98 to 117. Trajan was the second of the Five Good Emperors of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty, presiding over a period of extensive administrative activity and military expansion across the Roman Empire.
