Obverse: Nude, clean-shaven Perseus with winged Phrygian cap and a cloak (chlamys) around his shoulders squatting right with his head turned back. In his right hand he holds a sickle, and in his left the head of Medusa. Below, a tunny right. Reverse: Incuse square of mill-sail pattern. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 0.67 g (from 1 recorded specimen) and a diameter of 6.5 mm (from 1 recorded specimen). Historical context
This electrum fraction was struck in Cyzicus, an ancient Greek town situated in the region of Mysia in Anatolia. Located in classical times on the shoreward side of the Kapıdağ Peninsula by the Sea of Marmara, the city functioned as an issuing authority producing coinage during the Classical Period.
