Historical context

Priapos, also known in ancient Greek as Πρίαπος or Priapus, was the ancient name of Karabiga, situated in the Biga District of Çanakkale Province, Turkey. The settlement was established at the mouth of the Biga River, on a small east-facing inlet known as Karabiga Bay. During the Hellenistic Period, the city served as an issuing authority producing coinage in bronze.
