Historical context

Apollonia ad Rhyndacum, situated opposite the delta of the Rhyndacus river in northwestern Anatolia, corresponds today to Gölyazı. This civic coinage was struck under Publius Septimius Geta, who ruled as Roman emperor alongside his father Septimius Severus and his older brother Caracalla from 209 to 211. Following the death of Severus in February 211, the brothers were intended to govern jointly, but Geta was murdered in December of that year.
