Coin in bronze struck at Kyzikos in Mysia under Hadrian, dated AD 129–138. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 16789 (issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate head of Hadrian, right. Legend: ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙϹ ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟϹ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΟϹ. Reverse: round temple with plain masonry walls, a two-leaved door high up on the facade, surmounted by three feminine figures; the central figure holds two torches, the figures on left and right one; the building is flanked, left and right, by torches with entwined serpent. Legend: ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 24.57 g (mean of 2 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 34 mm (from 1 recorded specimen).

Historical context

Cyzicus, or Kyzikos, was an ancient Greek town situated in Mysia on the shoreward side of the Kapıdağ Peninsula in Anatolia. Known for his philhellenism and extensive journeys across the provinces, Hadrian maintained active relations with Greek civic communities, which celebrated the imperial authority through local coin issues.
