Historical context
This bronze coin was struck under Trajan, who served as Roman emperor from 98 to 117. Remembered as one of the Five Good Emperors of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty, Trajan oversaw significant territorial expansions across the empire, including the annexation of Dacia and Nabataea. The coin was issued by Poimanenon, also known as Poemanenum, a well-fortified Greek town of ancient Mysia located south of Cyzicus and southwest of Lake Aphnitis, which was renowned for its temple of Asclepius.
