Historical context

Cyzicus, also known as Kyzikos, was an ancient Greek town located in Mysia in Anatolia, situated on the shoreward side of the Kapıdağ Peninsula. During the Roman Imperial Period, Antoninus Pius governed the empire from AD 138 to 161 as the fourth of the Five Good Emperors from the Nerva–Antonine dynasty. His peaceful and well-administered reign saw regional cities like Kyzikos continue their civic coin production under his authority.
