Historical context

Parium, also known as Parion, was a Greek city located in Mysia on the Hellespont. Antoninus Pius governed as Roman emperor from AD 138 to 161, having been adopted by Hadrian as his successor shortly before Hadrian's death. His reign over the Roman Empire was notable for its peaceful state, free from major revolts or military incursions. This bronze coin was struck at Parion under his authority.
