Historical context
Parium, also called Parion, was a Greek city located in Mysia on the Hellespont. Marcus Aurelius was Roman emperor from 161 to 180, belonging to the Nerva–Antonine dynasty and reigning as the last ruler of the Pax Romana. During his time as emperor, the Roman Empire was caught in widespread military conflicts, including the Marcomannic Wars. This civic bronze coin was struck at Parion between AD 166 and 180.
