Historical context
Apollonia ad Rhyndacum was an ancient town situated opposite the delta of the Rhyndacus river in northwestern Anatolia, at the modern site of Gölyazı. The coin was struck during the Roman Imperial Period under Commodus, who served as co-emperor alongside his father Marcus Aurelius from 177 before ruling alone from 180 to 192. His sole reign, often considered the close of the Pax Romana, ended with his assassination in 192.
