Coin in bronze struck at Hadrianoi in Mysia under Marc Aurel, dated AD 179–180. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 17564 (issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate bust of Commodus, right, wearing cuirass and paludamentum. Legend: ΑV Κ Λ ΑVΡ ΚΟΜΟΔΟᛈ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟᛈ. Reverse: Demeter standing, l., holding poppy and two ears of corn in r. hand over altar and long torch in l. arm. Legend: Τ ΛΟΚ ΔΙΟΔΩΡΟᛈ ΑΝΕΘ ΑΔΡΙΑΝ ΠΡ ΟΛVΜ. Historical context

Marcus Aurelius reigned as Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and was the final ruler of the Pax Romana. In 177, his son Commodus became co-emperor at the age of 16, having previously accompanied his father during the Marcomannic Wars and on an eastern tour. This civic coin from Hadrianoi in Mysia was issued during the joint rule of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus in AD 179–180, just prior to Marcus Aurelius's death in March 180.
