Historical context

Severus Alexander was Roman emperor from 222 until 235 AD, succeeding his cousin Elagabalus as the final ruler of the Severan dynasty. Taking power at the age of 13, he oversaw a relatively prosperous thirteen-year reign that nevertheless encountered external threats from Germanic tribes and the Sassanid Empire before his assassination in 235 AD. This civic bronze coin was struck during his reign between AD 222 and 235 at Miletoupolis, an ancient town in Mysia situated at modern Karacabey.
