Historical context

This bronze coin was issued at the ancient town of Miletoupolis in Mysia, sited at present-day Karacabey in Turkey. It was struck under Severus Alexander, who ruled as Roman emperor from AD 222 until his assassination in March 235. The youngest sole emperor of the united empire upon succeeding Elagabalus at age 13, Alexander was the final ruler of the Severan dynasty, overseeing a thirteen-year reign challenged by the Sassanid Empire and Germanic tribes.
