Historical context

Hadrianeia was an ancient town situated in Mysia, later the location of an early bishopric. Severus Alexander served as Roman emperor from 222 until 235 AD, succeeding his cousin Elagabalus at the age of 13 as the youngest sole emperor of the united empire and the final ruler of the Severan dynasty. His thirteen-year reign provided a period of internal prosperity before concluding with his assassination during campaigns against Germanic tribes.
