Historical context
Miletoupolis, known also as Miletopolis, was an ancient town located at the site of modern Karacabey in Turkey, near the Simav River. Gordian III, or Marcus Antonius Gordianus, ruled as Roman emperor between 238 and 244, having become the second-youngest sole emperor of the united Roman Empire at the age of 13. This civic bronze piece was struck under his authority during this reign.
