Historical context
This silver diobol was struck by the city of Prokonnesos in Mysia during the Classical Period, dated to circa 360–340 BC. The obol or obolus formed an established unit of ancient Greek currency and weight. Prokonnesos was an ancient settlement located on the island now known as Marmara Island in the Sea of Marmara.
