Reverse: Hygieia and Asclepius; to left, Hygieia standing right, feeding serpent held in her right hand from patera in her outstretched left; to right, Asclepius standing facing, head left, resting his right hand on serpent-staff. Historical context

Hadrianeia was an ancient town in Mysia, located near Dursunbey in Asiatic Turkey. During the Roman Imperial Period, civic coinages were issued under the authority of Roman imperial figures such as Julia Domna. Domna, born in Emesa in Roman Syria, served as Roman empress from 193 to 211 as the wife of Emperor Septimius Severus and the first empress of the Severan dynasty. Famous for her political, social, and philosophical influence, she was honoured on provincial municipal coinages struck across the empire during Severus's reign.
